It's just really weird to me that it will work just fine until a sleep or shutdown. Dell systems that shipped with a fingerprint reader as part of their build may require a firmware/driver update in order to utilize the biometric device in Windows 10. I've tried searching the web for different drivers, downloading from the Dell website, and countless other things I can't recall. I then scan for new hardware and it reinstalls and the reader works until sleep/shutdown.

So every morning I start up the device manager, go to Biometric devices, and uninstall Synaptics FP Sensors (WDF) (PID=003f) and check off "delete the driver software for this device". Once I do that the reader works just fine until the next shutdown or sleep. Some user reports that the dell fingerprint reader not working after sleep. Also, on Windows 10 you are able to use a 4-digit PIN instead of password, but that still requires typing in a box on the Sign-in screen. There are no meaningful benefits of disabling the sign-in screen in that case.

Since then I've determined that whenever I shutdown or the computer goes to sleep the drivers have to be reinstalled. So, if you have a fingerprint reader or an IR cam on your laptop you should probably keep sign-ins after sleep on. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for it and it started working.

I already reinstalled Windows 10 but that doesn't help either. I've already tried another driver, but unfortunately. I have tested this on a Lenovo Yoga 260 laptop and a Lenovo M93P desktop (with attached external fingerprint reader).
